“I’m a lesbian, and I DON’T want a lesbian princess. The world isn’t ready for it right now.”
Sorry to reblog something not strictly related to Sailor Moon, but can I just say;
I absolutely loathe hearing this excuse, especially when it comes from other LGBT people; what kind of logic is this? If people keep saying, “the world isn’t ready!”, then the world will never be ready. Minorities don’t get treated equally just because the world magically becomes ready; the world becomes ready because the shit has already gone down and the rest of the world has to learn to deal with it.
Not to mention that even the idea that the world “isn’t ready” is totally flawed. “Not ready” for what? A lesbian couple portrayed in a positive way, as main characters, even? Sorry to burst your bubble, but that’s happened before. The world has already been “handling” homosexual couples in its media - yes, even ones aimed at chidlren - for some time now and nothing has exploded. Disney is actually pretty far behind the curve on this one.I don’t want a lesbian/gay Disney prince/princess either, but it’s because I think it’d be full of stereotypes and cliches and unfortunate implications. I don’t mind if people don’t want a LGBT Disney character so long as this isn’t the reason. Get over the idea that somehow the world would implode if a Disney princess enjoyed tits, and focus on discovering the real reason you don’t want one.
^^
