“Life Size Ghosts” by Mt. Wolf // Life Size Ghosts EP (2012)

It’s kind of amazing how some songs just sound like a season. London based four piece, Mt. Wolf, have a distinctly winter-y sound - almost as if created from some mystical winter fairy tale landscape (Iceland, I’m looking at you). “Life Size Ghosts” is described by the band as “Dream Folk” and that’s an appropriate tag as the ethereal layers of synths and vocal samples take the lovely, yet minimal folk guitar to a special place. Sounding like a more subdued Susanne Sundfør, or a more folk leaning Julia Holter, Mt. Wolf certainly has a special sound that calls to mind snow blown forests under a shimmering winter moon. It’s the right sound for this time of year - that is of course, if you’re looking for something that doesn’t mention Santa Claus.
